Project Overview

Cerner's long-standing history in the healthcare industry led to technical and design debt accumulation. Over the course of 30+ years, multiple tech stacks, and numerous acquisitions, the product landscape became fragmented.  We found ourselves managing over 300 product SKUs, each with its own visual identity, interaction patterns, and architecture. This inconsistency created confusion for users, increased development time, and made it difficult to scale new features efficiently.

Our Goal & My Role

Our Goal &
My Role

Our Goal:

Deliver a consumer-grade product experience within enterprise healthcare IT that is built on Cerner's System-of-System Design System to improve usability, organizational efficiency, and enhance patient safety.

My Role in Project:

Led the vision and execution of Cerner’s enterprise-wide UI modernization, aligning product, design, and engineering around a unified strategy for scalability and usability. Directed the creative and technical direction to ensure the new system delivered a consumer-grade experience across 300+ products.

Where Emotion Meets Interface:
Crafting the Visual Language of Cerner’s UI

I led the UX team through a keyword and moodboard exercise to establish the emotional and visual foundation for Cerner’s next-generation UI. The team explored accessible font pairings, the psychology of color in clinical environments, and modern UI inspirations to guide our direction. This alignment exercise became the creative springboard for the UI exploration phase, empowering every designer to contribute and vote on concepts that would define Cerner’s unified visual language.
